Watching my best friend has been hard lately. They keep saying nothing they do will ever improve their life after several setbacks at work and home. Even small opportunities get ignored now. Could you recommend learned helplessness examples and how to overcome it? I would love to understand what might help them move forward.
DerecJuly 2, 2026 at 5:17 pm #354988I’ve seen that slide too: a friend lost a few chances at work, then started acting like every new door was already shut. What helped was not “thinking positive,” but proving to himself that small actions still matter. A good plain-English read on learned helplessness is learned helplessness vs depression what is the difference . It gives real-life examples and a few practical ways to start undoing that stuck feeling without making it sound cheesy.
