David Eric Grohl is better known as Dave Grohl is an American musician, songwriter, filmmaker, and author. He is best known as the drummer for the Seattle grunge rock bands, Nirvana, and the frontman and guitarist of Foo Fighters.

Career

Dave Grohl joined the punk rock band called Scream at 17, after the removal of their drummer, Kent Stax. After the disbandment of band Scream in 1990, he became the drummer for Nirvana. Nirvana’s second studio album, Nevermind (1991), was the first to present Grohl on drums and became a worldwide success.

After the disbandment of band Nirvana following the death of lead singer Kurt Cobain in April 1994, Grohl created Foo Fighters as a one-man project. In 1995, the first Foo Fighters album got released, and it set a full band up to tour and record under the Foo Fighters’ name.

Since becoming a full band, Grohl has been the main singer, songwriter, and rhythm guitarist for the band. He also has played drums on several of their songs and albums, and the band has successfully released ten studio albums.

In 2010, Classic Rock Drummers co-author Ken Micallef described him as one of the most influential rock musicians of the last 20 years. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame enlisted him as part of Nirvana in 2014 and as a member of Foo Fighters in 2021.

He is the drummer and co-founder of the rock supergroup Them Crooked Vultures (2009) and has recorded and toured with Queens of the Stone Age (1996). He has also taken part in side-projects called Late! and Probot and began directing Foo Fighters’ music videos in 1997.

In 2013, Grohl released his debut documentary film, Sound City. The documentary miniseries Sonic Highways followed in 2014 and film What Drives Us (2021). He later released a memoir, The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music, in 2021.
