Laurence Fishburne was born on July 30, 1961, in Augusta, Georgia, U.S. He is an American actor, scriptwriter, film director, and playwright, also known as a “dramatist”.
His parents divorced during his childhood. He moved with his mother to Brooklyn, NY. He grew up in New York. However, his father saw him once a month. Fishburne completed his graduation from Lincoln Square Academy in New York.
Fishburne has gained huge recognition for his forceful, militant, and authoritative roles in his films. He is best known for playing the role of Morpheus in The Matrix trilogy from 1999 to 2003.
He played the role of Jason “Furious” Styles in the drama film Boyz n the Hood in 1991. After that, he played the character of Tyrone “Mr. Clean” Miller in the war film Apocalypse Now in 1979. He has also worked as “The Bowery King” in the John Wick film series in 2017.
In 1993, Fishburne acted the role of Ike Turner in What’s Love Got to Do With It. He was nominated for an Academy Award in the category of Best Actor in 1994. He also won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his appearance in Two Trains Running (1992).
The next year, he won Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series TriBeCa (1993). He became the first African American to represent Othello (Book by William Shakespeare) in a motion picture by a higher studio when he appeared in Oliver Parker’s, who is a British film director in 1995 film.
Fishburne has worked in several films, including Contagion (2011), Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018).
He starred as Dr. Raymond Langston on the CBS crime drama Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) on TV from 2008 to 2011.
After that, he acted as Special Agent Jack Crawford in the NBC thriller series Hannibal, from 2013 to 2015. He also played the role of Earl “Pops” Johnson in the ABC sitcom Black-ish in 2014.
