1. Wants To Be A Soccer Star

Maluma had always wanted to be a soccer player till he was about 16 years old. Then he discovered music, and his aspirations transformed overnight. It wasn’t easy telling his parents about his change of mind, but as he told Caras, they finally came to accept it. [1]

2. Became Famous Overnight

Magia, his debut studio album, was published in 2012. The album went gold in Maluma’s native Columbia and featured numerous massively hit songs, including “Farandulera,” “Loco,” “Obsesi3n,” “Magia,” “Pasarla Bien,” and “Miss Independent”.  A year later Maluma released “La Temperatura”: the single went viral, giving Maluma his breakthrough entry on the US charts and pushes his career to new heights. Maluma was not born with the surname Maluma. Juan Luis Londoo Arias was born on January 28, 1994. Juan became Maluma about 15 years later after deciding to follow in the footsteps of Cher, Madonna, Elvis, and others by going by just one name. [3]

In terms of music, it was actually his grandfather who influenced him the most. Maluma used to spend days at his grandparent’s house as a child, listening to as many salsa records as he could.
