Victor Ma was born on March 20, 1996, in New York City to parents Ma Qingyun and Li Shouning, both of whom are architects. His maternal grandfather, Li Ange, served as a coach for the China women’s national volleyball team.
At the age of 4, Victor moved to Shanghai with his family, where he attended Shanghai Pinghe School for both elementary and junior high. At 13, he moved to Los Angeles and attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts and later the University of Southern California.
During his school years, Victor participated in various singing competitions. In 2014, he competed in the Water Cube Cup Chinese Songs Contest For Overseas Chinese Youth, where he received the bronze award.
On June 10, 2017, Victor Ma started his journey in the Tencent talent show i.e., The Coming One, and successfully secured the second place by September 23, 2017. The finalists of The Coming One initiated their concert tour, named The Coming One Tour, in Nanjing, China.
On December 8, 2017, Ma in collaboration with Chinese singer Vin Zhou, released a single titled Halo, It’s Me. He then launched a live album called Author on December 14, 2017.
Ma also appeared in the Chinese web series, Detective Chinatown, in 2020. That same year, he also introduced his second EP, The Textbook. In 2021, he expanded his acting portfolio by featuring in the Chinese film, Detective Chinatown 3.
