Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty is an Indian classical vocalist and the victor of various awards and honors including Padma Bhushan Award, the 3rd highest civilian award in 2020, India. He is the famed classical singer and has won millions of hearts with his melodious voice.
He was born on 25th December 1952, Kolkata, West Bengal, India where he grew up along with his younger brother, Sanjay Chakrabarty, who is a composer and lyricist.
Career
Ajoy Chakrabarty did graduation in music, and also has done B.A and M.A from the reputed university- Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, India.
He finds his inspiration in his father as he was the first Guru of Ajoy. He then, studied along with Jnan Prakash Ghosh, Kanaidas Baigari, and Pannalal Samanta.
Also, he had learned Carnatic styles from M. BalamuraliKrishna who helped him to enrich his musical expressions.
Besides, he also learned renders lighter forms of music in multiple languages, such as; Tappa, Thumri, Folk, Kirtan, Bhajan, and others.
Also, Ajoy Chakrabarty had learned film, non-film, and modern songs in various other languages that helped him to explore himself.
Additionally, the veteran vocalist had performed in some of the reputed venues across the world including Carnegie Hall, New Orleans Jazz Preservation Hall, USA, the Royal Albert Hall, Theatre de le Ville, France, and others.
Also, he was the first classical vocalist from India, who was invited by Pakistan, China, and BBC for their Golden Jubilee Celebration of India’s Independence.
