Anne-Marie Johnson is a well-known American actress and impressionist. She rose to fame for her roles in the sitcom television series What’s Happening Now!! (1985-1988), and In the Heat of the Night (TV series, 1988-1993). She also was a cast member in In Living Color (1993–94) during its last season and had recurring or regular roles in Melrose Place (1995–1996), JAG (1997–2002), Girlfriends (2003–2004), and The InBetween (2019).
Anne-Marie Johnson graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a degree in acting and theater. She made her first United States television appearance as a contestant in the game show called Card Sharks, but she listed her name as Anne Johnson.
She later appeared on the game show Child’s Play (1982-1983) under her full name and a pilot episode for the game show Body Language (1984-1986) as Anne Marie Johnson. Jackson described herself as a “struggling actress”.
Anne-Marie Johnson began her career appearing in episodes of the Australian dramas Homicide (TV series, 1971-1974) and Matlock Police (TV series,1972–1976). In 1984, she played the role of Aileen Lewis on the short-lived comedy series Double Trouble (1984–1985) and had a recurring role in the police drama Hill Street Blues (1984–1985).
She received the first national vice president of the Screen Actors Guild in 2008. She ran for president of the actors’ union in 2009 on the Membership First ticket, but she lost to winner Ken Howard.
Jackson also appeared in several movies, including Robot Jox (1989) and The Five Heartbeats (1991). On television, she played a leading role in the 1989 film Dream Date and starred in the miniseries Lucky Chances (1990).
Recently, she appeared in the 2020 television series How to Get Away with Murder, where she played Kendra Strauss.
