Awais Zia is an international cricketer who has represented the Pakistan cricket team from 2012 to 2014. Primarily, Zia is a left armed batsman but also a right-handed off-spin bowler. He was born on 1st September 1986, in Bhown, Chakwal, Punjab, Pakistan.
Career Journey
As a youngster, Zia first introduced as a street cricketer who was playing for his village Bhaun. He next then played club cricket in Chakwal. While attending the local trials he was spotted by Jhelum’s coaches. He got an opportunity to fill a position in the Jhelum team. He started to play for Jhelum district. He next then played Grade 2 cricket. His continuous struggles came into the observation that let him get a final chance to play first-class cricket in 2007 for the Rawalpindi cricket team.
Zia has played a number of matches in the domestic and international cricket that included 35 first-class matches and 19 List-A debut. In addition to this, he has also appeared to represent the Rawalpindi Rams in 22 T20 matches. He progressed very well in the final match of the Faysal Bank T-20 Cup, held in 2011. In this match, Awais scored 32 runs in only 13 balls with a good start as an opener. But unfortunately, the team did not chase 181 runs, resulting in the defeat of 10 runs.
Zia has also played for Sui Southern Gas Company as the leading run-scorer of the tournament in the 2018–19 Quaid-e-Azam One Day Cup. In this tournament, he made 396 runs in only 7 matches. He was again the leading run-scorer of the tournament in the 2019–20 National T20 Cup, where he scored 276 runs in only 7 matches.
As far as the international career is concerned, he has represented Pakistan in the series against the England cricket team that included in three T20I matches. Zia played in all three matches. He scored 47 runs. But Pakistan loses the series by 1–2.
As far as the PSL career of the Zia, since 2016, he has played the Pakistan Super League tournament. He bought by the Karachi King squad and currently also a member of the same team in the 2020 session of PSL.
