Weathers began playing football at Long Beach City College as a defensive end. He then received a scholarship to San Diego State University. He was twice chosen to the all-conference team at San Diego State and was recognised as an All-American in 1969. The Oakland Raiders selected Weathers in the second round of the 1970 NFL Draft. He was let go from the squad after just seven games, therefore his professional football career was brief.
Weathers explored acting once his football career was over. In the beginning, he played minor parts in TV series including “The Streets of San Francisco” and “Barnaby Jones.” Nonetheless, the role of Apollo Creed in the motion picture Rocky served as his major break. In the first four Rocky films, Weathers played Rocky’s adversary, and it’s still regarded as one of his most recognisable performances.
In later years, Weathers appeared in a number of additional films, such as Predator, Action Jackson, and Hurricane Smith. In TV dramas like “Arrested Development” and “Chicago Justice,” he also had recurrent parts. Weathers has been an actor for more than 40 years, and he is still working in the business today.
