Fatma Girik was a Turkish actress. She was born on 12th December 1942 and died on 24th January 2022. Apart from acting, she established her career in the field of politics. Among Hulya Kocyigit, Filiz Akın, and Turkan Şoray, she was considered an icon for the golden age in Turkish cinematography.

Also, Fatma Girik is still regarded as one of the four most important Turkish actresses in Turkish cinema.

Career

Fatma Girik was notable for her outstanding performances in both films and televison series. She is regarded as one of the most acclaimed stars as she had given winning performances in her acting career.

Girik was born in Istanbul and completed her graduation from Cagaloglu Girls High School in the city. She is still remembered for her first incredible performance as a walking lady in ‘Gunahkar Baba’ directed by Arsavir Alyanak.

She played a leading role in Leke which was directed by Seyfi Havaeri in 1958. After three years, she starred in a film named Olum Pesimizde (Death is Chasing Us) by Memduh Un.

She worked in more than 180 movies. Later, she joined politics and became a mayor of the district of Şişli in Istanbul between 1989 and 1994.

On 24th January 2022, Fatma Girik died at the age of 79. She died due to multi-organ failure, caused by Covid-19.
