Laura Innes is a famed American actress and television director. She is best known for starring as Dr. Kerry Weaver in the medical drama ER (TV series, 1997- 2007). From 2008 to 2009 she reprised her role in the last season. She also starred as Sophia in the short-lived thriller The Event (TV series, 2010- 11).

Career

Her father, who frequently took the family to the Stratford Festival of Canada, introduced Laura Innes to a professional theater in Stratford, Ontario. Following his advice to “do what you love,” she studied at Northwestern University and graduated in 1980. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority in University and earned a degree in theater.

Her first stage credits were in Chicago at the outstanding Goodman Theatre and Wisdom Bridge Theatre, where she played in A Streetcar Named Desire as Stella. A renowned American actor, John Malkovich, played Mitch in this production.

She played Miss Andrews in the Nickelodeon sitcom Hey Dude (TV series, 1989) in the second season seventh episode Teacher’s Pest. She also played Mrs. Fleeman in the fifth season fifth episode Baby. In the 1990s, she guest-starred in television series including Party of Five (1994), My So-Called Life (1994), and Brooklyn Bridge (1991-1993).

She also appeared in the TV movie And the Band Played On (1993) an Emmy-winning movie.  Before being cast in her first major TV role in the sitcom Wings (1991-1993). In 1995, she began a recurring role in the second season of the hit medical drama ER (1994-2009) as Dr. Kerry Weaver.

Innes also directed several episodes of the series, and episodes of Brothers & Sisters (TV series, 2006), and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (TV series, 2006) one of which earned her an Emmy nomination for directing.
