The English cricket player Liam Edward Plunkett or Liam Plunkett was born on 6th April 1985 in Nunthorpe, Middlesbrough, England. Primarily Plunkett is a bowler who has fast bowling ability with his right arm. Plunkett has represented the winning England team in the 2019 Cricket World Cup. Domestically, he plays first-class cricket for the Surrey County Cricket Club in the country cricket.
Career Journey
Plunkett began his career journey in 2003, playing for Durham. In this match, he played from the senior side for the club’s academy. He scored very well with taking 19 first-class dismissals while his debut season. He next then taking 31 wickets in the second session.
He called up for the 2005 season for the Durham squad. While that session, Plunkett was the leading wicket-taker in first-class cricket. His excellent progress let to call up to the England squad in the same year to tour Pakistan. From November to December, he toured Pakistan where he made his first international appearance. Despite playing his career first Tests match, Plunkett also made his first One Day Internationals debut.
He has also played in the England squad at the 2007 ICC World Cup. In that World Cup, he made 29 not out with taking the figures of 1–43 against New Zealand. Moreover, in the group match against Canada, Plunkett took 2–46 that led to the victory of England by 51 runs. In the final match of the tournament, he took 1–71 in only 7 overs that result in the victory of England by 1 wicket against West Indies.
In 2007, he was the key member of the England test squad when West Indies tour to England. The 3rd match of the test series was proven to a break in his test appearance for the next five years for England with taking figures of 1–43 and 0–57, resulted in England’s victory. During the period of November 2005 to June 2007, Plunkett appeared in a total of 9 Test matches and 27 ODIs matches before dropping by England.
In 2016 World T20, he progressed well in the semi-final round of the tournament against New Zealand by taking a wicket as England got the victory by a big margin of 7 wickets. Despite this, in 2019, he was one of the important players of the 2019 Cricket World Cup. In the final match, he took 3 wickets along with New Zealand’s captain Kane Williamson. England won that World Cup. Recently, he has represented Karachi King Squad in the 2020 PSL.
