Natalia Leite is a Brazilian writer and director. She is best known for directing the indie hit film M.F.A (2017). The film is about a feminist rape-revenge thriller that pushed debates at the start of the #MeToo movement. The film premiered at SXSW in 2017. It received nominations for a Grand Jury Award and later The New York Times, CNN, and other outlets wrote about it.

Her feature film debut Bare (2015) launched at the Tribeca Film Festival. IFC and Paramount Pictures released the film in US theaters. Leite is a constant contributor to Vice Media and organizes her documentary topics into her scripted films. She grew up in Sao Paulo, Brazil and later attended the San Francisco Art Institute.

Career

Natalia Leite began her career selling drawings, photography, and performance art films in galleries. Later, she moved to NYC in 2006, where she started writing, directing, acting, and producing her own micro-budget short films. From these former works, she could raise financing for her first feature film.

As a director, she has directed feature films and documentaries including M.F.A. (2017), Bare (2015), and Kiki and the Mxfits (short) (2018). In her unscripted show for Vice Media, Byron Allen’s Every Woman (TV series, 2007-12). She lived and worked in New Mexico, which she realized while location exploring for the film Bare. She created a pilot for a television series with a similar concept in which she would involve herself in different female-centric worlds as first-person investigative journalism.

Natalia Leite collaborated with Kyp Malone, and she starred and co-directed the music video Million Miles for TV on the Radio. Malone then created the original score for the feature film Bare (2015). She co-created and starred in the web series Be Here Nowish (2014).
