8 Things You Didn’t Know About Brendan Fraser

1. Almost Died While Shooting “The Mummy”

Fraser’s most famous part is likely Rick O’Connell, the dashing protagonist of The Mummy, yet he nearly died during making the film. O’Connell is sentenced to death by hanging in an early scene in the film. The scene, however, went tragically wrong. “They killed me for 18 seconds,” Fraser claimed of the encounter. [1]

2. Dedicated Actor

Fraser plays a morbidly fat guy in 2022’s The Whale. Fraser’s body was fully changed using makeup and prosthetics to obtain a very lifelike appearance. This necessitated the use of body suit pieces weighing up to 300 pounds at times. [2]

3. His First Acting Gig

The long-running reality shows America’s Most Wanted has actors reenacting atrocities. Brendan Fraser’s first role on the show was as a buddy of murder victim Rodney Mark Peterson in 1988.

4. Has Photography Skills

Fraser is a skilled amateur photographer. Fraser’s character on the sitcom Scrubs carried an Instant Polaroid camera with him everywhere and continually snapped images. He collects ancient Polaroid cameras and claims to be a “photography geek” in his spare time.

5. Can Speak French Fluently

The actor is conversant in French. He put his language talents to use in the romantic comedy Blast from the Past, in which he co-starred with Alicia Silverstone. Fraser plays a guy who returns to the world after 35 years in a nuclear fallout bunker in the 1999 picture.

6. Once Terrified To Punch Bill Goldberg

Fraser’s character is supposed to punch Goldberg’s character during a sequence in Looney Tunes: Back In Action (2003). Fraser apparently feared punching the former professional wrestler.

7. Made A Bonding With An Elephant On Set

After all, he is George of the Jungle. Brendan and an elephant named Tai first met in that film. They developed a close friendship, which was revived when Brendan joined the cast of Looney Tunes: Back in Action.

8. Also Adopted A Horse From A Movie Set

Brendan has been known to connect with the animals he meets on set, owing to his love of animals. So much so that he actually adopted a horse off the set of Texas Rising named Pecas – the Spanish term for freckles. [3]
