Sally Cecilia Hawkins, professionally known as Sally Hawkins, who is an English actress and has honored with numerous awards including a Golden Globe Award & the Silver Bear Award for giving the outstanding work.
She was born on 27th April 1976, Dulwich, London, England where she raised and grew up with siblings and parents named Jacqui & Colin Hawkins, who are the authors and illustrators of children’s books. His brother, Finbar is also associated with a film line and working as a film and television producer.
At the age of 3, she took an interest in acting and went to a circus show. Initially, she wanted to go into comedy but ended up working on theatre plays.
She completed her schooling from James Allen’s Girls’ School, Dulwich. While in 1998, she graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts.
Career
After completing graduation, she started her career in acting as a stage actor and worked in various promotions including “Romeo and Juliet”, “Much Ado About Nothing”, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and others.
In 2002, she debuted with Mike Leigh’s “All or Nothing” and continued working with him, appeared in Vera Drake (2004), played a supporting role, Happy-Go-Lucky, (2008), played a lead role for which she won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a film & the Silver Bear for Best Actress.
Later, she started acting in films and appeared in two Woody Allen movies including Cassandra’s Dream (2007) and Blue Jasmine (2013) for which she nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Since she worked in many popular movies, such as; “Made in Dagenham”, which was released in 2010 in which she played the lead role. Also, she appeared in “Paddington”, which was the best release of 2014, and giving the stellar performances in movies, like; “Maudie”, released in 2016, and “Paddington 2”, released in 2017.
She has appeared in Godzilla, released in 2014, “Godzilla: King of the Monsters”, released in 2019. And the best is, she appeared in a fantasy horror film named “The Shape of Water” which was released in the year 2017 in which she played the role as a mute cleaning woman for which she earned critical acclaim and honored with a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress.
Apart from this, she also worked as an actress on stage productions with the Royal Court Theatre in London. In 2010, she made a debut in “Mrs. Warren’s Profession”. Also, she featured in Constellations at the Royal Court Theatre in 2012, which was later transferred to the Duke of York’s Theatre.
Also, she made her identity on the television as well and appeared in the television series, such as; “Velvet” 2002, in which she played the role of Zena Blake. Whereas, she appeared in “Fingersmith”, aired in 2005, in which she played the role of Sue Trinder. Alongside this, she also worked in “Persuasion”, aired in 2007, in which she played the role of Anne Elliot.
Achievement
She is the victor of several awards and has won the British Animation Awards for “The Snail and the Whale” in 2020. Apart from this, she has won a large number of awards for giving the stellar performances in the movies, such as; “Persuasion”, “Maudie” and “Paddington 2”.
