Denzil Leonard Smith, popularly known as Denzil Smith, is an actor, producer, hailing from India and mainly known for his amazing performances throughout the career. He has made a broad career and worked in more than 45 plays and 50 films. He established himself a successful actor and producer who has worked in theatre plays, films, and television serials, radio, as a voice actor, a media person, and as a producer as well.

He was born on 6^th November 1960, Mumbai, India where he raised and grew up with siblings Cheryl Roy-Smith (sister) and Lionel Smith (brother). He belongs to an Anglo-Indian family and born to John Smith and Kathleen Maude Shepherd.

Denzil Smith credits parents for his success because it was his father who introduced him to the field of theater and music.

Denzil Smith studied from St.Andrews, Bandra, and later attended the University of Mumbai where he studied English Literature.

Career

Denzil Smith started his career as a film producer under the guidance of adman, actor, Alvque Padamsee – CEO of an advertising agency, Lintas”.

He left his corporate career in 1988 and started focusing on stage acting. He then trained in voice at the National Centre for the Performing Arts, Mumbai, under the guidance of Pratap Sharma and Dr. Ashok Ranade.

Later, he started working as a theatre actor and performed in various plays. Initially, he worked with the veteran actor, Naseeruddin Shah, and Ratna Pathak. Later, he became a member of Shah’s Motley Productions – a theatre group that was formed by Naseeruddin Shah and others.

He then made his career in productions and worked in “The Odd Couple” and other productions as well. He then worked in Hindi productions with Satyadev Dubey.

Additionally, he worked in several Bollywood and international film productions. One of his most popular films was “Mango Souffie” which was released in 2002. It was taken from Mahesh Dattani’s stage play “On a Muggy Night in Mumbai”.

He then appeared in television series, serials, promotions, commercials and worked for various notable brands. Also, Denzil Smith dubbed Hindi feature films including “House of Flying Daggers”, “Hanuman” “Kung Fu Hustle” and others are worth sharing.

Also, he has done several voiceover projects for commercials, documentaries, and corporate films and marked his identity in multiple fields as he worked in telefilms, television series, and so on.

Achievements

He won the ITA Award for Best Actor in a Negative Role. Also, he appeared as a co-host with Perizaad Zorabian at the Meta- Awards in 2014.
