Vasanth Kumar Shivashankar Padukone, popularly known as Guru Dutt, who was the veteran, iconic, actor, and had worked in the Bollywood film industry. The legendary actor’s skills were not limited to just acting, but he was such a great producer, director, and choreographer. He was born on 9th July 1925, Bangalore, India. He was addicted to taking alcoholic drugs and this habit got worst. At the age of 39, he took his last breath. He died due to an overdose of drugs as he mixed sleeping pills. It is not confirmed that it was an accidental death or a suicidal attempt. He died in the year 1964.
Career
The most talented, well-known, the actor made his career broad in multiple fields including acting, direction, production, and choreography. He made his acting debut with a movie “Chaand” which was released in the year 1944. In 1951, he made his directorial debut with a movie “Baazi”. In 1954, he produced his first movie “Aar Paar” which became an instant hit. In 1946, Guru Dutt worked on the movie “Hum Ek Hain” as a choreographer. While some of his popular projects include “Kaghaz Ke Phool” as a director, and “Saanjh Aur Savera” as an actor.
He was the son of Shivshankar Padukone, mother-Vasanthi Padukone. While he had a brother named Atma Ram and a cousin sister, Lalita Lajmi. He always credited his parents for being extremely supportive throughout his venture.
Once Guru Dutt revealed that he had a passion for dance in his childhood and joined the dance academy of Pandit Uday Shankar who was a renowned legendary dancer and choreographer. Pandit Uday Shankar was a brother of Pandit Ravi Shankar who was a Sitar Maestro. In 1946, Guru Dutt got the chance to work as a dance choreographer for the movie “Hum Ek Hain”.
However, the veteran actor acted in a large number of movies and also worked on many other film projects as a director, producer, and dance choreographer. He had worked on innumerable projects for which he got immense love and huge recognition from fans and viewers.
Achievements
Among various notable achievements, Guru Dutt was honored with the Filmfare Award for the category of Best Film. Also, he was awarded the National Film Award for the category of the Best Feature Film in Hindi.
