An Indian former actress, Mandakini previously worked in South Indian and Hindi movies. She is best remembered for her role in the 1985 film Ram Teri Ganga Maili. She was born in an Anglo-Indian family in Meerut, India. Her father Joseph was British.
Once the actress shared in an interview that she was first rejected for film roles. She was rejected by three filmmakers. Later, she was approached by Ranjit Vij who changed her name to Mandakini and signed up for his movie named ‘Mazloom’.
Career
Mandakini started off her career after several failures. She debuted with Ranjit Vij’s directorial named ‘Mazloom’. Later, she didn’t look back and continued acting.
At the age of 22, Mandakini was approached by Raj Kapoor and he signed her as a leading actress in the film named ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’. In the film, Mandakini shared the screen space alongside Raj Kapoor’s youngest son Rajiv Kapoor. Luckily, the movie became a blockbuster and it led her to earn a Filmfare nomination as Best Actress. It was her first victory in her showbiz career.
Later, Mandakini appeared in two consecutive movies wherein she was seen partially naked which created a huge controversy among the masses of the society.
Among many acting credits, Mandakini is known for appearing in successful movies, like; ‘Dance Dance’ alongside Mithun Chakraborty, ‘Kahan Hai Kanoon’ alongside Aditya Pancholi, ‘Pyaar Karke Dekho’ alongside Govinda Ahuja.
Achievements
Apart from getting success and fame for appearing in successful, blockbusters, Mandakini earned a Filmfare Nomination for Best Actress for the film named ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’.
