Ian McShane (born on 29 September 1942) in Blackburn, England. He is an English actor. He is best known for his TV performances, especially as the lead role in the BBC series Lovejoy (1986–1994). From 2004 to 2006, he played the lead role of Al Swearengen in the series Deadwood. Later, he reprises his role in the film Deadwood (2019).
Career
He starred as Mr. Wednesday in the series American Gods (2017–2021). McShane won the Golden Globe Award in the category of Best Actor – TV series for the original series of Deadwood. He received a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Ian McShane was nominated for the film “Deadwood” for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding TV Movie as a producer.
McShane joined the film industry in 1962. He made his first film debut as Harry Brown in “The Wild and the Willing” (1962). In 1969, he played the role of Charlie Cartwright in “If It’s Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium”.
He starred as Wolfe Lissner in Villain (1971) and acted as Teddy Bass in Sexy Beast (2000). After that, he played Frank Powell in Hot Rod (2007). In the same year, Ian McShane acted as Captain Hook in Shrek the Third. Later, he performed as Tai Lung in Kung Fu Panda (2008). He starred as Blackbeard in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011). In 2014, McShane played the role of Winston in the John Wick film series.
