8 Things You Didn’t Know About Atif Yilmaz

Ataf Yalmaz Batibeki was born on 9th December 1925, was a famous Turkish film director, screenwriter, and filmmaker. He was the veteran celeb of the Turkish film industry, who directed 119 movies. He composed and produced approximately 53 screenplays and 28 movies, since 1951. He was very dynamic in the Turkish film industry of all time. Although there were various films he directed, most of them were worth it, and a message had to be sent. He died on 5th May 2006.  Atif Yilmaz

1- Atif Yilmaz’s Family Background

He was born to a Kurdish family and originally belongs to Palu. He was so passionate about media career and always wanted to pursue it since an early age. However, his parents supported him throughout his career venture.

2- His Educational Background

Mersin was his hometown where he born and raised. Also, he got his education from there. After completing high school, he moved to the School of Law of Istanbul University. Atif was keen enthusiastic in arts, so he left the Law School and joined the Painting Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul. After graduating, he attended some painting workshops as well. The biggest advantage that he received from the painting work was directing the movies. And this became his aim, and he started directing his movies.

3- He Started His Career As A Film Critic

Initially, he worked as a film critic, produced some artistic masterpieces and composed film scripts which became his major source of income in those days. After co-directing two films in 1950 as an assistant director of Semih Evin, his directing career began with Kanli Feryat (The Bloody Cry). In 1960, he formed his film company “Yerli Film” with on-screen character Orhan Gunsiray.

4- He Is Best Known For

He is familiar with movies and with social messages. Most of his movies were considered random in those days. Notably, “mine” and “Her Name Is Vasfiye” are sexist changes and the general public’s reaction to the issue at the time.

5- He Was An Ambitious And Never Gave Up

He never quit directing the movies, and he did for a mind-blowing period, and even when the Turkish Industry quit filmmaking for monetary reasons. This way, he was so ambitious who never gave up in any kind of situation.

6- He Has Done Significant Roles In His Career

Alif Yalmaz has done an important role in the careers of leading Turkish film executives such as Halit Refig, Yilmaz Guney, Serif Goren, and others.

8- His Last Days In Istanbul

At the Antalya Film Festival in September 2005, he was admitted to the hospital with gastrointestinal obstruction. He died in Istanbul on 5th May 2006. He is not among us but lives in our hearts and still, there’s a large number of fans remember him for his outstanding work.
