1. Ward Of Court

Morton, who was only eight years old, was declared a ward of the court—that is, placed under the protection of a legal guardian—because neither of her parents could care for her and her siblings. Morton was only two years old when her parents split in 1979, leaving her with six half-siblings. [1]
