Tan France was born as Tanveer Wasim Safdar in 1983 to a Muslim family. His parents emigrated from England before his birth, but by birth, Tan France is British. He belongs to a strict Muslim household where he faced a lot of issues, particularly, racism.

He became one of the very first openly gay South Asian men on a major show and one of the first gay Muslim men on western television.

He started his career at a young age

His grandfather founded a manufacturing company in Northern England-named “Bury”, exclusively designed denim, -Disney. Tan joined him for gaining the experience as he was so young at that time but it helped him a lot.

Tan France worked for large-scale fashion lines after completing studies in the field of fashion design. He worked for Zara, Selfridges, Chanel, and others to diversify the learning experience. In 2011, Tan France founded his own clothing line named “Kingdom & State”. He loves women’s clothing as compare to menswear because the possibilities are unlimited in women’s clothing so he preferred to establish a women’s clothing line.

He married to Rob France

Being a gay, he married to Rob France and met him on an online dating site. Rob is a freelance illustrator and belongs to a strict Mormon household and their similar backgrounds brought the pair together.

His Memoir, published in June 2019

In June 2019, he became a published author of a book, his memoir named “Naturally Tan” got critical acclaim. In the book, he describes the major global issue of homosexuality, and the challenges he faced in a conservative Muslim family.
